Improving Patient Safety and Medical Care

Millions of people visit hospitals and medical clinics every day. Needless to say, there is an overwhelming need for healthcare and medical services. Unfortunately this can make it more difficult for hospital facilities to ensure a safe and high quality experience for patients. However, if the proper steps are taken on a daily basis, quality and performance improvement in healthcare is certainly feasible. It is imperative for the hospital board of directors, as well as the staff, to make an effort in order for medical care and patient safety to improve.

The truth is most people despise going to the hospital emergency room, local clinic, or any type of doctor. This is for obvious reasons, and medical facilities are often very busy and hectic environments. Patients also commonly worry about germs and whether or not the hospital is actually clean. To better ensure patient safety and quality healthcare, medical professionals all need to do their part. For instance, when the hospital staff takes the time to treat each patient with complete respect, the patients will leave the medical facility feeling more satisfied. This also encourages a calm and stable hospital environment.

Quality initiatives in healthcare are being taken very seriously. This is because the healthcare industry continues to become more and more competitive, and more patients are complaining about poor healthcare services. The key is to put sustainable healthcare practices into place, and make certain all staff members are aware of these practices. This includes assisting patients in a timely manner.

Healthcare quality improvement requires improved patient safety. This means a clean environment for all patients. All waiting areas, patient rooms, medical equipment, and floors must be properly disinfected in order to prevent the spread of germs and diseases. This is something that most healthcare facilities and clinics strive to improve. However, it can be difficult, due to the heavy patient traffic coming and going around the clock. Patients with highly contagious viruses or health conditions need to be separated from others to better ensure patient safety.


Speaking directly with patients, and taking the time to understand drug allergies, past medical conditions, and current health problems or symptoms is crucial in regards to improving quality healthcare services and minimizing problems for patients. While this does take time, it improves the quality of healthcare services, and better ensures that the patients will receive the proper medical assistance and care that is required.
